This wedding was a little different to many previous weddings I had photographed because I had known both the Bride and Groom for many years – even before they had got together. I am not sure if this added more pressure onto my shoulders or made it easier in that I was already comfortable with both of them. The venue selected for the ceremony and reception was The Grand Hotel at Tynemouth. This is a lovely hotel with exceptional views over the coast.
With a February wedding you are never sure on what weather you are actually going to get. Luckily when I arrived it was a lovely bright sunny day that wasn’t too windy – which was excellent as Lyndsay was desperate to get some outdoor photos after the ceremony.
Having the excellent venues over the beach and beyond also had the advantage to the photography that the beautiful clear light could make its way into the room Lyndsay and her Bridesmaids were getting ready in. This allowed some lovely natural light shots of her dress and flowers.
We headed down stairs to get a few portraits of Carl and his best man Richard. We checked the room for the ceremony and again like the rest of this venue there it is a lovely bright room with space for us to work.
Lyndsay and Carl’s little boy was a little star all day and kept us entertained in the room when the girls were getting ready. I managed to grab a few portraits of mam and son during some free time.
Coming down to the ceremony Lyndsay and her bridesmaids managed to carefully walk down the impressive staircase without incident.
Here are a few photographs of the lovely ceremony. Working in such a light room makes all of the difference.
Following on from the ceremony we did some family and friends group shots in the ceremony room. The staff were very helpful to move the chairs quickly. Originally we had planned to go outside but the calm weather from the morning had got slightly colder and rain looked possible.
After throwing confetti I took Lyndsay and Carl across the road to get some photos with the sea and beach in the background. The light was fading and it was getting colder all of the time so we didn’t have long. We had to get a few off camera light outs to compete against the darkness.
Heading back inside to get warmed up we did a few more photos with friends and the bridal party before we headed downstairs for the speeches.
The speeches were a more informal affair with all the speakers coming to the dance floor to tell stories about the newly weds. There was a lovely mix of affection and humour towards Carl and Lyndsay. Richard's mention of some Walkie Talkies probably generating the biggest laugh.
During the evening reception the couple cut their cake with little James getting in on the action again.
Here are a few photos from the first dance.
The evening guests were entertained by local wedding band The Fontains.
Thanks again Mr and Mrs Air for booking me to take your wedding photographs.
